Findability (SEO Tweaks)

by Zoomeister on November 23, 2009

Is your website findable? I’m not sure if that is even a real word, but hey… this is the Internet, people make up new words and terms every day! God knows we love acronyms… SEO, SEM, PPC, RSS, CRM, XML… I think you get the idea.

At a time when it is estimated that there are one trillion sites out there, having a website that is not fully optimized and promoted effectively online is like being the prettiest gal at the party and hiding in the bathroom. No one will ask you to dance if they can’t find you.

I have seen drop-dead gorgeous websites fail even though they had every conceivable widget designed to improve the visitor’s experience. Yet, I’ve seen horribly designed sites do well because they were optimized for search and attracted tons of traffic. Even a poorly designed website will make sales if enough people visit… a blind squirrel will find an occasional acorn.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a process by which a website is fine-tuned to perform well in organic listings and attract people searching for specific information. These modifications and tweaks involve many facets, but one major component is the proper utilization of content-related keyword phrases. As an example, which page title do you think will capture more visitors?

Idaho log home company

Obviously, the second title has 10 critical keywords combined into a natural sentence packing a powerful message. If you were searching for a log home company in Idaho, which link do you think you would click? Now multiply that by 10, 100 or 1,000 and you see how SEO drives traffic to a website.
